Anna Karenina update! Read this please!
Hey everyone!  I know I'm a bit behind and have some stuff I need to post, but for now, the most important news is that the Anna Karenina discussion WILL take place.  Norm informed me recently that the discussion will start September 8, 2012.  I hope you'll be there to take part in the discussion.

The Monster by Stephen Crane

The Monster by Stephen Crane is next short story.  Discussion starts July 2nd.  I have found various places to read it online, but the two best sites I've seen are http://etext.lib.virginia.edu/toc/modeng/public/CraMons.html and http://crane.classicauthors.net/THEMONSTER/THEMONSTER1.html. In addtion, you can also download the book in several different formats at http://manybooks.net/titles/craneste3118931189.html(Select a format from the pull-down menu) or you can get it from Google Books at http://books.google.com/books/about/The_Monster_and_Other_Stories_Mobi_Class.html?id=khas-waEr3AC.

Norm has announced that the next book we will be reading is The Great Gatsby by F. Scott Fitzgerald. Besides an actual book, this can be found on Kindle, but it's a bit pricy.  You can also read it online at http://ebooks.adelaide.edu.au/f/fitzgerald/f_scott/gatsby  or at: http://www.publicbookshelf.com/fiction/great-gatsby.

Norm tweeted tonight asking if we wanted to read another short story before his show in Ohio.  Some of the regulars posted yes, so he decided on In the Penal Colony by Franz Kafka.  You can find it to read online here: http://www.kafka-online.info/in-the-penal-colony.html

The Short Happy Life of Francis Macomber

The Short Happy Life of Francis Macomber by Ernest Hemingway was a short story we read at the end of March.  The discussion began on April 2, 2012.  I apologize for just posting it now, but I was sick at the time we read and discussed it. I, myself, am just getting around to reading it.  This is the first time I have read Hemingway. The best link I found to read it online is http://members.multimania.co.uk/shortstories/hemingwaymacomber.html.  Please be advised there are several links on this page.  DO NOT click on any of the ads as they have nothing to do with the story. This is your only warning.  They are spyware/malware and nothing else.

The Use of Force by William Carlos Williams

The Use of Force by William Carlos Williams is the latest short story we read.  Norm announced this book on May 4 and said discussion would start the following Monday.  Book club members seemed split on this one.  Some thought the doctor's actions were perfectly fine.  Others found this story to be very disturbing.  Read it and draw your own conclusions.  If you want to read it online, the best link I found was http://www.classicshorts.com/stories/force.html.

For those who already read Anna Karenina, Norm added two stories as alternate material to read.  One was the novel Something Happened By Joseph Heller. The second was the short story, Meneseteung by Alice Munro. However, upon learning that some club members were paying as high as $6 for Meneseteung, he added Boys and Girls by Alice Munro after a club member tweeted a link to the story online. Discussion of these stories began February 29, 2012.  Here are some links you might find useful:
